Ingredients include shallots, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, chilli (sic), salt, and vegetable oil, all of which sound like they'd be good in a dip, which is where I put it.
I was expecting the packet to contain a powdered spice blend, but inside I found another plastic packet with a spice paste, which mixes much better than a powder in sour cream. Mixed with a pint of sour cream, it does make a very nice dip, with a little bit of heat from the chili.
I think this might be a base seasoning for Balinese cooking, like adobo is for Latin American cooking. On the back of the packet are suggestions for using it for beef, fish, boiled eggs, and stir fry.
