Tobacco virus can increase battery life tenfold.

Tobacco growers may now have an incentive to stop selling cigarettes.  (Yeah, right.)

Researchers at the University of Maryland have found that coating the tobacco mosaic virus with conductive materials and using them in lithium batteries will increase the batteries' life by ten times.  They picked TMV because it had the right size, rod-like shape, and dimensions to form nanorods that can increase the conductivity in batteries.

This might make tobacco more profitable as a growth medium for the virus than as a growth medium for cancer.
