GOP says it'll block bills until tax cuts extended

Senate Republicans threatened Wednesday to block virtually all legislation until expiring tax cuts are extended and a bill is passed to fund the federal government, vastly complicating Democratic attempts to leave their own stamp on the final days of the post-election Congress.

Which means they're holding the government hostage, blocking legislation for the poor and middle class so that the rich, many of whom WANT to pay more taxes, won't have to.

Yeah, the "rich".... like me.
Darn, and I was just looking forward to having the economy driven even FURTHER into the ground by an ever-rising tax burden....!

Yes indeed, how dare they stop the Democrats from taking ever-bigger chunks of money out of the populace's hide to flush down the toilet.

Governing's no fun if you can't stick your tongues out at each other across the aisles in the Senate.

You guys should have adopted the Westminster system. If we're unhappy with the government, we get the privilege of tossing everyone out at once from the top down. Except the Senate; they're appointed instead (though they just rubber-stamp everything decided the Commons 98% of the time).

Says who?

More importantly taxes in general tend not to affect rich anyway because they can afford lawyers, while a higher tax burden tends to drive away small businesses which can't turn a profit because of a combination of thick red tape and because they can't achieve economies of scale like the other companies so their prices rise well above what the marketplace deems acceptable. Lower and middle class workers also suffer from a rise in the prices of items such as groceries.

Also, that comment about paying more money in taxes isn't well thought out because you can donate more of your money to the government on the tax form so the comment is likely because they're trying to feel good about themselves.

It's a toss up, really.
