200,000-year-old disposable recycled utility knives found in Israel.
Archaeologists from Tel Aviv University in Israel have found the earliest known disposable knives in a cave near Tel Aviv. The 200,000-year-old flint knives were about the size of utility knives and were used in the same way. They were used like plastic knives to cut meat, and for other small cutting jobs, until they dulled and could be thrown away. They were recycled from larger knives that outlived their usefulness.
