One of the best features of Endtown is the natural mannerisms of the characters, and background details. Few other cartoonists would have had a character holding a newspaper and gesturing with it because that’s what people do. These people are acting, and not just reciting lines like other strips’ characters.
One other comic comes to mind where the background and “business” is just as an important a character as the protagonists: Watchmen. I think Endtown is on the same level of creativity and care, if not better.
