Denny’s Franchisee To Add 5% “Obamacare Surcharge” – The Consumerist

And while he is adding the charge to compensate for the added cost of providing insurance to his employees, he will be cutting his employees' hours to less than 30 hours a week so he won't have to provide insurance to his employees.  He says the money he's collecting for his employees that he won't give them will be used to pay anticipated penalties for not giving them the money he's collecting for them.  For reals.

They were probably going to cut hours and raise prices anyway; this just gives them someone to blame.

I'm stumped by this level of meanspiritedness. That owner goes way out of his ways to make sure the employees suffer as much as possible and then some. I hope the folks can afford to walk out on him.

While his employees may suffer the consequences, he probably thinks he's somehow vindicting Obama.

He's not the only one, either. Several restaurant chains are pulling similar stunts or saying they won't be hiring or expanding so they can duck the laws. I wonder if they will be boycotted the same way Chik-Fil-A was a few months ago.

For clarification, it's a franchisee, not the the whole Denny's chain. But Papa John's is yanking the chain.

Not just them; Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and Applebee's have all been in the news for pulling similar stunts.
