A scientific observation...

I just saw a Discovery HD commercial for "Discovering Ardi".  Given that the announcement of ardipithecus' discovery was only just made, this indicates that the researchers waited until the program was ready before making their announcement.  The same thing has happened with the the mummified T. rex and other discoveries, where an announcement is made and a program on it appears just a few weeks or even days later.  It looks like the new scientific method is to embargo discoveries until TV shows can be made about them.

well, everything's a business. Diggin up bones and salvaging lost ships costs a lot of money, and I suppose you have to drum up some excitement if you want to attract big-ticket donors.

When The Discovery Channel is funding the dig, you bet they control the release of the data.
