In his book Speechless: Tales of a White House Survivor, former Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer claims Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling had been considered for a Presidential Medal of Freedom, but was passed over because some in the Bush administration believed she was promoting witchcraft and sorcery and they objected.

By the sacred skull of Mogg's grandmother... what does it say about an administration so inept that I actually believe that account is possible?

I'm just as shocked that they were shallow enough to consider offering the Presidential Medal of Freedom just for writing some über-popular kid-lit.
